Viking World is a collection of historical occurrences and important events of the Nordic world which are brought to life again through the imagination of the author. It tells the story of how the Norwegian Rollo founded Normandy, or how a proselytizing priest caused trouble in Iceland. It tells of the young Greenlander Leif Eriksson who, following a legend, discovered the continent now known as America five hundred years prior to Columbus. It recounts the life of the pagan Viking King Olaf who became a devout Christian, and attempted to unite his country in the new faith.
In the heart of the Ruhr region, in the City of a Thousand Fires, Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, the author was born in 1964 and grew up in the shadow of mine towers and coal piles. He attended secondary school, and contrary to his original wish to become a miner like his father, Rainer W. Grimm trained as a concrete worker and a carpenter. He then discovered his talent for writing and began work on his first novel, The Saga of Erik Sigurdsson, which he published in 2005. The series now comprises five volumes. Seized by a passion for writing, he soon followed up with additional novels, including the short story trilogy Viking Worlds. The first volume of the Viking Worlds trilogy is also available in English. The other two volumes will follow. Fascinated by the lives of the Vikings, their voyages of discovery, and their wars of conquest, this naturally became the subject of his books. He has also published the novel Pact of the Barbarians, which is set during the time of the Roman Empire. The Jarlsblut Saga, with nine volumes published so far, is the authors most recent project. He has also since written a science fiction novel and a crime series.
