Christian Broecking

Christian Broecking (1957-2021) was a sociologist and musicologist and wrote for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Berliner Zeitung, taz, Tagesspiegel, DIE ZEIT and Jazz thing. PhD thesis on the social relevance of African American music. Broecking was Senior Research Associate at the Lucerne University of Applied Arts and Sciences and taught music history at the Winterthur Institute for Contemporary Music; Speaker for the Conference "Jazz in the Global Imagination" at Columbia University, New York, the "Darmstadt Contributions to Jazz Research" and at the Heidelberg Center for American Studies. Broecking headed Jazzradio Berlin and Klassik Radio Frankfurt, he was a juror fort he "Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik" (German Record Critics Award) and for NPR (National Public Radio).
