"Thirty: The Time Is Now!" was published on my 30th birthday - a moment I looked back on my first three decades and reflect on experiences from school, university, my career (including time in consulting and investment banking), as well as personal experiences with family and life more broadly.
The book is mainly aimed at young people (21-35) who feel lost, misunderstood by the education system, or pushed to their limits in high-pressure careers. Beyond professional topics, it also touches on personal lessons - from dealing with burnout and depression to navigating love, friendships, and family.
It is partly a personal reflection and partly a guide, with the goal of helping people see things more clearly and not be misled by unrealistic expectations or societal narratives. The title expresses a simple idea: the right moment to consciously shape your life is now.
Who am I? I am many things. First of all, my name is Jan Hingar. I recently turned 30. I am someone who cares deeply about family, friends, and colleagues - sometimes even too much, to the point where it takes a toll on me. Professionally, I have worked in Investment Banking, Management Consulting, and Private Equity at some of the most prestigious firms, alongside colleagues from places like Harvard and Stanford. The funny thing is: I was never supposed to be there. I even had to repeat my final year of school because I was bored. And yet, I got there - because I am stubborn, determined, and mentally very strong. I am sporty. I stand up for what I believe is right. I am a fighter. I enjoy the good things in life. I love life itself. And ultimately, I want to leave this place a little better than I found it.
