PD Dr. med. Sven Berkmann was born in Basel, Switzerland, in 1978. He lives in Switzerland, is married and the father of three children. He has been working as a neurosurgeon for more than twenty years. In 2021, he completed his habilitation at the University of Basel and is the author of several scientific publications. The historical literature and medical research on one of the largest plague out- breaks in Europe in the last 300 years sparked his imagination during a pandemic. This is his first novel.
