Racing with Death is an autobiographical book by Boris Fittkau, in which he vividly recounts his confrontation with illness, mortality, and the joy of living. After surviving two cancer diagnoses, he became painfully aware of both the preciousness and the transience of life - and began writing the book he had long postponed.
The author speaks candidly about how his encounters with death fundamentally changed his relationship to time, life, other people, and himself. His personal journey leads through existential experiences, spiritual insights, near-death moments, and instances of self-empowerment. He offers honest glimpses into his fears and healing processes, sharing stories of meditation, love, encounters with spiritual teachers, and his time at the Ridhwan School.
A central theme is the Enneagram, which Fittkau taught for many years and also portrayed on stage as an actor. Alongside an introduction to this teaching, he focuses in particular on his own type - Type Six: Fear and Courage.
Thus, Racing with Death is far more than a personal account of illness: it is an invitation to live more consciously, courageously, and creatively. With a candid, often humorous tone and heartfelt gratitude toward all who accompanied and supported him, Fittkau reaches out to readers seeking new perspectives and inspiration - even in difficult times.
A book about vitality, inner strength, and the miracle of truly living - written with depth and heart.
