In this Vol. 2 on the flora of Mongolia and adjacent areas of China and Russia, 1744 colour photographs of 406 taxa of vascular plants belonging to 37 families are presented. These include, among others, the families Fabaceae (Pea family), Lamiaceae (Mint family), Chenopodiaceae (Goosefoot family) and Polygonaceae (Knotweed family), which are very rich in species in Mongolia. Together with Vol. 1, a total of 3617 colour photographs of 826 taxa belonging to 70 families are included. The selection provides a very representative overview on the species diversity of the families covered. Most of the species, that one would see during a botanically focused trip through Mongolia, are found in the volumes of this book.
Michael Herbert Hauck, diploma biologist, studied biology at the University of Göttingen, majoring in botany. From 1986 to 2021 he was employed in the state nature conservation agency of the German federal state of Lower Saxony (Lower Saxony Water Management, Coastal Defense and Nature Conservation Agency in Hanover); there he was responsible for protection of habitats and plant species. Since 2002 he has investigated the flora of Mongolia on numerous trips.
Zeerd-Aduuchid B. Solongo
Zeerd-Aduuchid Boris Solongo, biologist with a master degree, studied biology at the National University of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar with a major in botany. Her interest in the identification of Mongolian plants dates back to a joint research project of the universities of Göttingen and Ulaanbaatar, when from 2001 to 2003 she accomplished a mapping of habitat types and of endangered vascular plants in the Khentii mountains. Since 2006 she works as freelance biologist.
Martin Schnittler
Prof Dr Martin Schnittler is professor at the Institute of Botany and Landscape Ecology at the University of Greifswald. His research focuses on diversity, reproductive systems and speciation processes in vascular plants, fungi and protists. His group curates the herbarium of the Botanical Museum (GFW) as well as collections and databases on the plant diversity of Central Asia, including the FloraGREIF project.
