You have just been promoted.

Yesterday, you were part of the team.
Today, you are expected to lead it.

Suddenly, the conversations feel different. Expectations are higher. And you realize something no one prepared you for:

Leading people is not about authority. It is about trust.

From Colleague to Leader is written for new and emerging leaders navigating the most challenging transition of their careers - moving from colleague to leader without losing credibility, confidence, or themselves in the process.

This practical, refreshingly honest guide shows you how to:
- Earn your teams trust from day one
- Build strong, professional relationships with peers across the organization
- Lead upward with clarity, visibility, and integrity
- Communicate clearly in everyday situations - and calmly in crises
- Delegate responsibility without losing control
- Navigate organizational dynamics without playing games

With real-world insights, clear examples of what not to do, and exercises you can apply immediately, this is not a theoretical leadership manual. It is a field guide for the situations that actually define your credibility as a leader.

If you want to be a leader people rely on - not just someone with a title - this book will show you how.

Because trust is not a soft skill.
It is leadership work.

Christoph Hauke

Christoph Hauke stands for practical, honest leadership - without corporate theater.
With more than 5,000 hours of mentoring and coaching, he has supported over 300 emerging and experienced leaders across industries. Many were navigating the critical transition from colleague to leader - the moment when leadership becomes real and often challenging.
Through mentoring international leaders, Christoph has gained deep insight into a wide range of leadership styles and organizational cultures - far beyond a single national context.
Through keynotes, workshops, and leadership development programs, he has worked with more than 100 organizations across sectors, helping leaders build trust-based cultures that improve performance, collaboration, and decision making.
As former Managing Director of the German Association for Human Resource Management (DGFP), he experienced leadership from multiple perspectives - close to people, organizations, and real-world decision dilemmas.
He also served for eight years as the German member of the Delegate Assembly of the European Association for People Management (EAPM), collaborating with HR and leadership experts across Europe.
For more than a decade, he has served as Chairman of Supervisory Boards, supporting board members in strengthening responsibility, communication, and trust-based governance.
He regularly publishes articles, interviews, and thought leadership on leadership, cultural change, and trust-based collaboration.
His core belief runs through everything he does - as a speaker, mentor, advisor, and author:
Leadership is not defined by position.
It is defined by mindset and behavior.
