Cigarette Diaries follows Amy in her final days at Richmond High. Like many of her peers, she smokes way too much to cope with the mounting stress. As graduation nears, Amy is pulled into an emotional rollercoaster, grappling with absent parents, the choice of college, and the uncertain future of friendships formed in a school defined by subtle yet significant social class divides. As graduation day approaches, Amy uncovers unexpected truths about herself and those around her.
This coming-of-age flash-fiction novella balances lighthearted moments with a subtle critique of class issues, offering a relatable and insightful look at the end of an era in one teenager's life.
Ruby Os was born in 1998, in a small town in Bosnia, back when kids still actively read paper books, and just before the Kindle era. She has been writing from a young age, but rarely shared her work with the rest of the world. Her practical mindset led to enrollment in medical school, from which she dropped out a year later, moved abroad, and pursued her passion, a degree in English and American Studies.
Although fluent in 4 languages, Ruby writes creatively only in English. She published her first flash fiction in 2024, thanks to story.one, and this story collection is her second published work. She describes herself as a liberal Muslim feminist and is currently busy pursuing her Master's Degree in American Studies at the University of Graz as well as building her ghostwriting brand on LinkedIn.
She lives in Graz with her partner and their 3 cats, Ollie, Tinky, and Jack.
