Gerhard Gruber

From an early age, Gerhard Gruber devoted his life to aviation.
He spent 45 years working at Vienna Airport, including 30 years as Airport Operations Manager. At the same time, he accumulated more than 10,000 flight hours as a glider pilot, airline pilot, chief pilot, and senior examiner.
As an aircraft captain, he flew not only world-famous entertainers such as Phil Collins, Luciano Pavarotti, and Sean Connery, but also many leading Austrian political figures, including Franz Vranitzky, Viktor Klima, Thomas Klestil, Heinz Fischer, and numerous others. Among the highlights of his career were a round-the-world flight for Red Bull with Dietrich Mateschitz and the air show he organized to celebrate the centenary of Fischamend.
Gerhard Gruber is highly respected not only for his exceptional professional expertise but is also internationally recognized through his presentations at conferences on nearly every continent. He has left a lasting mark on the aviation industry as the author of a handbook on airfield markings, the standards of which can be seen at more than 4,000 airports worldwide.
In 1995, he gained international recognition for his invention of a system designed to locate crashed aircraft in conditions of poor visibility.
His experience ranges from being Austria's youngest flight instructor to serving as an expert witness for courts and aircraft accident investigations.
Since 1977, he has continuously worked as an instructor and examiner on flight simulators in Austria and abroad. Worldwide, there are likely only a few individuals who can look back on such a broad and distinguished aviation career.
